By Lauren Kren As I am wrapping up my freshman year of college (which is crazy), I decided to reflect on my senior year of high school. If you would’ve asked me if I would be a member of a sorority this time last year, I would’ve probably laughed and called you crazy. Now, a year later, I am a huge Greek Life advocate and encourage every freshman girl to go through formal recruitment. What changed? What made me go from unsure of Greek Life to a girl who wears her letters proudly every day? I honestly can tell you it is the women of Alpha Chi Omega.
Alpha Chi Omega is hands down the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I am not just saying that. The fact that I get to surround myself with strong, independent, hard-working and dedicated women everyday baffles my mind. The women of Alpha Chi Omega are some of the most level headed yet down to earth women I have ever met. The women of Alpha Chi Omega are the ones who strive for professional and academic excellence in everything they do, but are also the ones who are willing to drive you to McDonald’s at 1 am to talk and laugh about life. They’re the women who put their best foot forward in all their endeavors but are confident in their own skin and sports sweats and messy buns to class. They are classy and respectable women, but they are also REAL. They don’t expect you to have a face on 24/7 or to be perfect. Nobody is perfect, and they do not expect you to be. Every woman of Alpha Chi Omega brings something unique to the chapter; we are not cookie cutter molds. We are individuals, each different yet beautiful in our own ways. Despite our differences, we all share our love for Alpha Chi Omega. I knew when I walked into Alpha Chi Omega’s room during formal recruitment I would be welcomed for being myself and loved endlessly by my sisters. My sisters bring me up when I am down, and encourage and support me in everything I do. Whether you need a shoulder to cry on, someone to drive you to the store, a tutor, a mentor, a best friend, an academic resource, someone to laugh at your not-so-funny joke, you can find it in the women of Alpha Chi Omega. These women are leaders, strong, independent, real and most of all, my family. I can’t imagine spending my four years of college anywhere else and am SO lucky to call Alpha Chi Omega my home away from home.
